Paper Title - An Applicable Power Swing Blocking Scheme for Distance Relays


Abstract
Power swing could lead to malfunction of distance relays. Therefore, distance relays must be equipped with power swing blocking (PSB) unit to prevent the operation of distance relays during power swing. In this paper, a new but applicable algorithm is presented based on the active power flow of transmission lines at sending and receiving ends. Data transmission between two ends can be accomplished by using fast telecommunications such as optic fiber. The effectiveness of the proposed method is studied based on a 9-bus test system to evaluate the performance of the proposed PSB scheme during stable power swing events in Dig SILENT Power Factory 15.0. The obtained results show the validity of proposed method. Keywords - Distance Relay, Power Swing Blocking (PSB), Protection, Active Power Flow.
