Paper Title - Voltage and Line Capacity Sensitivity Analysis of Electric Vehicle Charging Load on Power Network
Environmental pollution concerns coupled with battery technology advancement have initiated the call for the
electrification of the transportation sector. The resurgence of Electric Vehicles (EV) patronage has an adverse impact on the
operating parameters of the power system; hence should go unnoticed. Indiscriminate charging of EVs could have
detrimental effects such as transformer overload, peak load demand, voltage and frequency instability and reliability on the
grid. Hence, the sensitivity analysis of EV charging should bequantified in order to assess the impact on power quality on the
system grid. Conventional adequacy assessments of the power network do not explicably address these issues on short-term
bases. So, the need for a compendious model to asses and evaluate the quality of the power networks with high penetration
of EVs. The goal of this paper is to develop a panoramic adequacy assessments framework, which addresses these concerns
in a comprehensive but concise manner. This paper proposes a framework for adequacy assessments of EVs on both
distribution and national grid networks. The entire analysis is performed using actual grid topology of some selected
countries. For the distribution network, IEEE radial network was adopted in line with the actual grid configurations. Based
on this framework, various simulation studies were carried out to verify the efficacy of the proposed assessment methods.
The simulation results show that the proposed approach is effective in enhancing both local and global adequacy evaluation
of the power network.
