Paper Title
An Interactive Mobile Game Application for Learning About Migration History
Abstract
International immigration has become one of the biggest social challenges in developed countries. Migrants often
face a number of difficulties that constrain their integration into the host society. One prominent issue is social discrimination
and hostile attitudes of the dominant group towards migrants. This paper argues that to achieve sustainable development
outcomes, it is important to also mitigate social discrimination and prejudice from the general public towards migrants.
Hence, this project developed a location-based outdoor augmented reality mobile game application to enhance the dominant
group’s understanding of the immigration history. A pilot study involving six participants was conducted. Users reported
increased understanding of the history of migration and life of early migrant groups in Singapore as well as increased empathy
towards migrants and the elderly in society.
