A Low Cost Portable Communication Device For The DEAFBLIND

Abstract
Deafblindness is a condition in which a person can neither hear nor see, making communication difficult. This project proposes a low cost communication device that allows a Deafblind person to communicate with a non-disabled person. The words entered by a non-disabled person on a QWERTY keyboard are converted into Braille and is perceived by the Deafblind person on a Braille display. Similarly, the Braille characters entered by the Deafblind person on a Braille keypad is converted into text and can be read from an LCD or heard from a speaker. A camera is used to capture images and transfer it to a remote person to gain information about the Deafblind person’s environment.
