PV based Cascaded Buck – Boost Converter for Electric Vehicle Charging Applications

Abstract
Abstract - Renewable energy is widely used as it offers pollutant free environment, low carbon and greenhouse emission. Among the renewable energy sources, the solar has become more advantageous. The output voltage obtained from solar energy resource is varying according to the time and location. In order to increase the system efficiency, a cascaded buck – boost converter with MPPT controller is proposed. A Cascaded buck – boost converter having four switches reduces the voltage stress in the semiconductors and having one inductor reduces the current ripple formed in the converter circuit. Therefore, a solar PV based cascaded buck – boost converter for electric vehicle charging applications is developed to improve the system efficiency. The results are obtained through MATLAB/SIMULINK. The obtained simulations are compared with the existing system. Keywords - Cascaded buck - boost, PV, Voltage stress, Efficiency, MPPT.
