Hierarchical Approach of Clustering in Linear Wireless Sensor Networks to Increase Energy Efficiency

Abstract
Recent advancements in wireless sensor networks have provided an efficient approach for real-time distributed data acquisition and monitoring. Energy use by these networks is the key aspect for longevity. In this paper an effective data collection mechanism for linear sensor networks is proposed by utilizing the linearity of the network. A clustering protocol based on the residual energy of the nodes is also proposed to minimize the energy consumption and maximize the lifetime. Simulations are done and the results show performance improvement in terms of network lifetime and average energy consumption.
