Paper Title
Effect of Membrane on the Performance of Fuel Cell
Abstract
Fuel cells are becoming one of the most researched energy sources today. Its ability to produce a clean and
pollution free energy makes it a very desirable device to become the future of energy generation. They are reaching new
heights every day. They can be used for different applications like transportation, power generation etc. This paper
highlights one of the important aspects that influence the performance of the fuel cell i.e. the membrane of the fuel cell. The
electrolyte membrane allows the protons to flow through them which are used for production of water in the fuel cell. The
thickness of the membrane is analysed here to show how it affects the performance of the fuel cell. The conductivity of the
membrane is also studied to analyse its effect on the performance of the fuel cell. With the mathematical modelling of fuel
cell, the impact of membrane is carried out. On the basis of this analysis a Simulink model has been developed. The model is
based on the electrochemical equations in order to generate the required power. The simulation is carried in
Matlab/Simulink environment.
