Reactive Power Compensation through Static VAR Compensator - Thyristor Controlled Reactor (TCR)
Abstract
This paper presents the reactive power compensation through thyristor controlled reactor. In this paper basics of reactive power and why reactive power compensation is required is illustrated first. After that what are the various methods of reactive power compensation is mentioned. In the end Simulink model of thyristor controlled reactor is presented along with the waveforms across various elements in the model. It is also shown that how reactive power in circuit can be varied by changing the firing angle of thyristor, which is known as reactive power compensation and is very important for proper working of any electrical transmission and distribution system.
